THE SHOW

Newsies tells the real-life story of a group of young newspaper sellers in New York, who took on the big shots of the press at the end of the 19th century. Led by Jack Kelly, the newsies take action forming a union to let "The World" know that although they may be hidden from society, their voice matters. Told through Alan Menken's heart-stopping songs and brought to life with high-energy dance numbers, the story of Newsies resonates with today's society, showing everyone they can change the world by working together.

Newsies opened on Broadway in 2012 before touring all over the USA. More recently, the show has been filmed for cinema and streaming so new audiences around the world can enjoy its inspirational message.

WHY I HEART IT

I became hooked by Newsies when I first came across a vlog series cast member Andrew Keenan-Bolger created, about all the backstage happenings when the show was playing on Broadway. I was drawn into their world, heard snippets of the original cast recording, and gradually fell in love with the show so I bought my own copy. By the miracle of streaming, I have enjoyed watching a film of the show online, but I still hope to see it live one day,
