Exciting young singer, Lily Casson, brings a new spin to some of her favourite songs, some familiar, some worthy of wider recognition, but all sharing the theme of an unexpected or casual encounter with someone or something. In this enchanting and personal show, Lily unlocks the hidden stories behind these songs whose composers include Lerner and Loewe, Stephen Schwartz, César Franck and Bob Chilcott.

The definition of an 'encounter' is...
'to be unexpectedly faced with an experience or something difficult'
'to meet someone unexpectedly'
'an unexpected or casual meeting with someone or something'
Each of these is represented in the songs I am going to sing you.
With 'Encounters' I hope to give a new spin on favourites that I love, and bring to light some songs that I think need more recognition with some unknown stories along the way.
'Beautiful music in a beautiful venue!'
'Lovely Singing and Great Playing.'

For Good from Wicked the Musical
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz
Even though I cannot die from Persephone
Music by Sue Casson/Lyrics by Simon Rae
Persephone is the daughter of Zeus abducted by Hades - her evil uncle and God of the underworld - while picking flowers. He insists that he will marry her but she refuses, preferring to hope that she will be rescued. In this song, she sings about how life isn't worth living if you can't see all the nature and beauty outside of the dark Underworld.
Stephen Schwartz's Wicked is the prequel to the Wizard of Oz and sees the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, and the Good Witch, Glinda, when they are teenagers growing up together at school. Their friendship covers all boundaries of race, stereotype and deals with good and evil within the confines of the land of Oz. For Good is sung as duet at the end of the show before they part, never to meet again.
